has confirmed on Friday that the drugmaker has agreed to pay $75m (£42.5m) to settle allegations it illegally markets and sells its erectile dysfunction drug Viagra in the US.
Pfizer's US patent on Viagra expired in October 2011 and the patent is set to expire in December 2014. Pfizer said on Monday that it was "reviewing" Viagra's sales and "continuing to market" it. However, the drugmaker said it was not making any profit.
The company did not immediately comment on the settlement. Pfizer has previously denied the allegations. The company said: "This is an important development and Pfizer has provided valuable and valuable insights into this area of our business.
"While we remain confident that this settlement will be successful, we will continue to vigorously defend our intellectual property and hold Pfizer accountable for the conduct of our sales and marketing efforts in the US."
